Dance Party

Chip said it best last night~

She loves music!

We had yet another awesome day yesterday and night. Yesterday we were determined to have some fun so we put on some music from Kaitlyn's birthday party and danced around being silly! (Under the Sea from the Little Mermaid, Beach Boys, and Caribbean music) It actually started when Gigi and Cole were doing the Elmo Slide with Elmo on Sesame Street. Kaitlyn had some great smiles, although I think she was probably just laughing on the inside at Mommy, Gigi and Cole dancing all crazy!

We even had Kaitlyn doing the "sprinkler" :-) Yes, it was a silly day! I had to show Gigi, Cole and Kaitlyn what the sprinkler, lawnmower, fishing rod, and grocery shopping dance were. My favorite is the grocery shopping one. If you don't know what they are ask someone to show you- it is hilarious!

We are really looking forward to the weekend so that Chip can be home from work and we can have family time all together. Sunday we are having a private baptism for Kaitlyn at our home. It will just be us. We really want to do this with her as a devotion and display of our faith and trust in God.

Other than that, it is completely family time, which it should always be- right?

So happy that Kaitlyn is happy!

That picture of Kaitlyn "singing and dancing" just put the biggest smile on my face - what a great memory :)

About Niemann-Pick Disease

Niemann-Pick Disease is a lysosomal storage disease that affects metabolism and is caused by genetic mutations. In order for a child to have Niemann-Pick Disease, both parents must be carriers of a genetic mutation causing Niemann-Pick. There are three types of Niemann-Pick Disease, Types A, B and C.

Kaitlyn had Niemann-Pick Disease, Type A, the most severe of the three types. She lacked an enzyme called acid sphingomyelinase. Since she didn't have this enzyme, her body couldn't get rid of sphingomyelin. Sphingomyelin has nowhere to go so it accumulated in her cells, eventually causing cell death and the malfunction of major organ systems.

Those with Type A typically live to be only 2 to 4 years of age. There are approximately 1,200 cases of type A and B worldwide with the majority being Type B. There is currently no treatment or cure for the disease. When Kaitlyn was alive, she was 1 in 5 in the United States with Type A.
